Star Fruit (Carambola)

star fruit

About
It has been cultivated since ancient times in the near and far East. Today, star fruit flourishes in south Florida, its best US growing region. A ready-made garnish, the golden yellow fruit, when sliced crosswise, yields perfect five-pointed star shaped sections, hence its name star fruit. Its flavor is a juicy combination of plums, pineapples and lemons.
